Richard didn’t intend not to be here right now. For six months he’d been living on his own in an extremely cool flat, and he was really loving it. He had shows booked for the Fringe and he was looking forward to going to a music festival up in Aberdeen. But at the same time, his chronic lung and eye conditions were getting progressively worse, so he was making the most of his time. As Linda has said, Richard’s life expectancy wasn’t good and he’d said to her that he had no intention of becoming an invalid, or sitting around blind in both eyes with tubes up his nose. So tragic though it is, I don’t think Richard would want you to feel sorry for him. On the night he died, he’d been having a party and he died a rock and roll kind of death; he lived fast and he died young. But as you have heard, and as you all know, he will be greatly missed.
